Mix & Match Monday - Enter To Win! (January 7-14, 2019)

Hi everyone,

Enter To Win! Which Look Is Best? Vote Now!

The question is simple, which look is best?

This week's contest is featuring a darling set of dresses made by Shari as the prototype pieces featured on the cover of the Prairie Rose 14.5" doll clothes pattern. This pattern design includes both a historical dress design and a refined look for a modern-day girl. Which style do you like best? Be sure to vote to help us decide which look is best and be entered into the giveaway to win both of these dresses! (Note - dolls and props are not included in the giveaway)

More About the Outfits: Get your doll in touch with her inner Laura in a charming 1870s prairie inspired dress! For this Mix and Match contest, we've styled up two variations of this dress pattern - Historical and Modern. Both dresses feature a gathered bodice with a yoke and waistband that button down the back.

  • The Historical "Prairie Girl" Outfit features a longer length dress with the added ruffle along the hemline. It also includes a simple apron which ties in the back and has two handy pockets, just the thing for a hard working Prairie girl. (Doll and accessories not included in the giveaway)
  • The Modern "School Girl" Outfit features a knee length dress with cute fabric flower detail at the waist. The Pink and gold floral print really make this dress pop! Darling buttons finish the back of the dress nicely.

Make It Today: Like the look and want to make your own? Click the image below to get the pattern, it's available in several sizes:

Get to know Shari Fuller... Shari has two pattern collections on Pixie Faire, Thimbles and Acorns, her original brand - and after years of collaborating with designer Eve Coleman on the Keepers Dolly Duds Designs brand, Shari is now the owner of that brand too. Each brand brings a unique look to historical designs in a beautifully detailed way.

More About Shari (in her own words):  My grandma gave me my first sewing lesson when I was about eight years old. I had been fascinated with her sewing for as long as I could remember and was so excited when she gave me a doll pattern and sent me to her sewing closet to pick out just the right fabric for my first project. Sewing was a way for me to connect with my grandma, and although she may not have realized it at the time, this gift she gave me helped me become a better student. History became more exciting as I became captivated by the dynamic fashions through the ages. This is what Thimbles and Acorns is all about; building relationships and encouraging learning. In November of 2011, I wrote my first pattern. Eve was the first one to take me up on the offer to test it. We quickly struck up a friendship and before long we were collaborating in our pattern making journey. Working with Eve these past seven years has been a privilege and a delight and I am honored to be able to bring Keepers Dolly Duds Designs to Pixie Faire!

Inquiring Minds Want To Know...

Q: What's your favorite food?
Shari:  Just about every day I like to have a Granny Smith Apple with peanut butter and chocolate chips...  It's the ultimate one-dish meal. The peanut butter and apple make a great healthy lunch (it's homemade peanut butter by the way) and the chocolate chips are a built in dessert.  My absolute favorite food is homemade pizza... because it is pure romance.  My husband and I have been making it every Friday since we started dating... 34 years ago!   It's become a Fuller Family tradition.

Q: What's your favorite tv show or movie?
Shari:   Return to Me.  My husband and I tend to sing through the whole movie because it has great background music and the story brings out the romance.

Q: Coffee or Tea??
Shari:  Water... I drink a lot of water.  Hot water in my favorite mug in the winter helps keep me warm and cold water in my favorite water bottle keeps me refreshed in the summer.

Q: Where's your favorite place to shop?
Shari:  Walmart, it's convenient (because I'm not particularly fond of shopping) AND my daughter works there so most everyone there knows me as "Jackie's Mom"... and treat me like a celebrity.

Q: What inspired your brand name?
Shari:  Thimbles and Acorns was inspired by my daughter who became infatuated with the story of Peter Pan when she was three years old.  The thimble and acorn were the "kisses" that Peter and Wendy exchanged.

Q: What is your dream vacation?
Shari:  A tour of Israel and Egypt.

We'd love to hear from you. Leave a comment and tell us - which look is best! And be sure to thank Shari for giving away such a cute outfit!

Thanks everyone,

The Pixie Faire Team

Thank you for the giveaway! This is an interesting new format – I like the idea of comparing clothing rather than rating which doll “looks better”. Both outfits are very cute (I love the mary jane shoes with the modern look!) but I like the historical version best. It would be fun to make the historical one for my Wellie so she could pretend to be my old Kirsten doll’s little sister!

I just bought this pattern (in the Wellie size, too!) a month ago for the historical Prarie Girl pattern. I love historical clothing! But particularly, I live in Utah and every July to celebrate the anniversary of statehood, there is a holiday called Pioneer Day. My 18 inch dolls have outfits—I even bought (and made!) Shari’s civil war shirt pattern fro my Logan doll to celebrate. Now my Wellie needs a dress. At least I have until July to make it! (BTW, I’d love to know where you got the shoes for these!)

The Prairie dress reminds me of second grade when we had a Thanksgiving feast at school and my neighbor Rosie and my mom made me a Pilgrim dress with the bonnet and apron. This pattern brings back that wonder memory; so my vote is for the Prairie dress. Thank you : )

I like the historical version. For a few years now I’ve been collecting historical clothing, patterns and dolls. I’m using these as gifts to teach my grandchildren about their bold and sacrificing ancestors. For example, this past year I was able to source and verify one of the original Pilgrims, Richard Warren, is my ancestor. His wife, Elizabeth (Walker) Warren, arrived a few years later with their daughters. We descend from Nathaniel Warren, one of the two sons born in North America shortly before Richard Warren’s death. I’m so excited these historical doll costumes will help my grandchildren appreciate their rich heritage. The Prairie dress will do nicely for another ancestor, Lydia Ann Hobson, who crossed the plains as a child. Even my grandsons want Great-Grandfather dolls to display on their bedroom shelves. Thanks, Shari!! (Now, if only the cracked rib from last year’s fall will get on the stick and heal properly, I can get back to sewing patterns like Shari Fuller’s and Eve Coleman’s awesome historical patterns. If not, I’ll have to purchase completed outfits.)

I love both outfits but I think I would make the dress in a plain fabric so you can see the detailing more clearly. it is hard to see the collar and the gathering on the top with all the fussiness of the flower fabric.
