Designed to fit A Girl for All Time® dolls, this versatile cardigan comes with two sleeve variations. It is knit all in one piece, from the top down. There are NO side seams; in fact, the only seams needed are on the underarm of the raglan sleeves. It has a special “fast and easy” eyelet cable that does NOT require a cable needle. The sweater closes in front with buttons and has a garter stitch band at the hem. It can be made with or without the collar, which is worked in a seed stitch. The cable makes a wonderful detail all on it’s own or you can embellish it with embroidery and bead-work for a three dimensional effect.
Special Note - This PDF pattern is designed to fit A Girl For All Time Dolls specifically and will not fit the standard 18 inch doll such as American Girl Doll. An AGAT doll is 16 inches tall and has a slimmer hard plastic body. You can see more info on our Doll Measurements page.
The cardigan can be knitted with either a #3 or #4 weight yarn. Either will work as long as your gauge is 5-1/2stitches/ inch. See yarn and needle suggestionsin the pattern.

I have made up two variations of this charming cardigan -- as it happens, this specific AGAT pattern fits many 42 to 46 cm ball jointed dolls beautifully. I am currently at work doing the bullion embroidery on one of them -- which is actually quite challenging on knits. As an individual who has been knitting for something like 50 years now, I recommend this pattern highly for intermediate or advanced knitters, although beginners could possibly tackle it, because it provides advice and suggestions for both technique and embellishment.
What a fun pattern! Super easy and you don't need a cable cable needle for those fabulous cables down the front! And so many options! A must have for your AGAT!
