Beautiful outfits! I’m proud to be an American of Irish-German descend, with a wee dram of Scot and English added to the mix. Corned beef and cabbage with a loaf of Irish soda bread is the only cultural thing we do.

My favorite family tradition is Thanksgiving! That is the time that my family gathers together and really enjoy each others company so much. I have taught my granddaughter to make yeast rolls and how to pay attention to texture and smells, not just the recipe.

My family is German and my husband Mexican, so we also incorporate a lot of traditions from those cultures in our family gatherings.

I was going to say that I wished you had outfits from Germany…like lederhosen! Then I discovered today that you already have that! I bet a lot of us have had that happen through the 12 days of Christmas!

My favourite cultural tradition is the making of Ollie Bollen (a sort of fried raisin bread) on New Years’ Eve. It was a tradition in my husband’s family and when he married me, my mom incorporated that tradition into our traditions. It is an annual reminder of the importance of traditions and also of my mother, who always did so much for people (our home was often filled with neighbors and strangers who had no other place to go at Christmas) especially at this time of year.

It’s lovely to read these traditions, thank you!

I would love to see more traditional costumes from around the world; I’ve had my eye on these highland costumes for some time.

I don’t really have a favourite cultural tradition . We enjoy going to an event here every year that is like a mini world expo. You get to go to many different countries pavilions and taste the food, see the traditional costumes, see displays of art works and dances, and learn a bit about each ones heritages. We have 4 biological children ( Caucasian ) and we adopted a family of 4 children ( African American heritage ). We try to teach all the kids to embrace other cultures. I’d love to see some Traditional African , Amish, Native American, and Scottish patterns.

I have always admired the Scottish! I went to a highschool that we’re Scottsmen. I was on the drill team and learned a few dances with swords. Our drillmaster was a drill sergeant in the Marines. She was scottish and put a lot of research into her marching and dancing. I joined the military because of her, she impressed me so much! I spent a whole career in the military. I was able to visit Scotland while I was stationed in Germany. That was the highlight of my 3 year tour. I also have Scottish in my blood. I attend the Scottish games that are held locally in July. I don’t follow a lot of cultural traditions for holidays, even though there are so many varied cultures from all over the world in my background (including both Scottish, and Irish). Growing up, my family didn’t really share a lot of history with me, so I mainly followed whatever the modern traditions were each year. However, every year for this time of year I do make a special rumball recipe for sharing with friends. And I also send off Christmas cards through the mail to friends & family with a special crocheted item to add to their tree.
