Cinnamon & The Liberty Jane / Pixie Faire Team
I shop for Velcro & zippers at zipper that doll.
I have the hardest time finding the finishing touches for the doll clothes I make, especially buckles, hooks and other fasteners.
I have the hardest time finding tiny zippers and doll size printed fabric. I sometimes buy clothing at a thrift store that has smaller print, but you don’t get as much mileage out of it as you do flat yard purchases.
I find some of my supplies, like buttons at estate sales, which is also a good place to find fabric that might be unusual from clothing.
I love the fact Pixie Faire that has all supplies that I would ever need. To make doll clothes. It expires me to be more creative.
I have the hardest time finding 1/4" buttons, zippers and small print fabrics.
would love to have doll size sewing notions
Joann and Hobby Lobby Notions are the hardest things to find. I usually check out the scrapbooking supplies because the buckles and trim are smaller the other is finding small print fabric
I shop for fabric and embellishments (buttons, lace etc ) at thrift stores. They often sell little bags of mismatched bits. Checking out their clothing can be a fun way to upcycle a vintage top into a
doll outfit. Costume jewellery sold there can be a treasure trove for decorative add ones.
Thrifting isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it is quite fun to think outside the box and reuse something in a different way.
I shop for my doll sewing supplies (fabric, zippers, thread, etc.) at Joann’s and Hobby Lobby. They have the biggest selection in my area and I’ve been going there for years for my doll sewing. I have the hardest time finding printed fabric at the right size for doll clothing. All the cute prints are usually too large for their size, and its very difficult finding something at just the right scale.
I have the hardest time finding doll scaled fabric.
Thank you for this amazing giveaway! ;D
I have the hardest time finding doll size separating zippers (off the rack) and baby wale corduroy in colors that aren’t just plain ugly. I usually end up Macgyvering something. It encourages creativity. I have to “Make it work!”
“I have the hardest time finding doll-scaled fabrics”
I have trouble finding narrow lace at a reasonable price
I have the hardest time finding doll Velcro, zippers and other doll supplies except ordering online. I live 100 miles from Joann’s, Hobby Lobby, etc.
I have the hardest time finding any doll scaled/sized notions. When it comes to sewing, I prefer to shop in person, so it’s really hard to find what I need at my local fabric store.
I shop for doll notions and fabrics all over the internet. I put in my search and find many places to shop on-line. So far I have found everything I have wanted. Granted it takes a while but that is part of the fun. “THE SEARCH”. I even found tiny tassels, as part of a larger trim, for Felicity’s Christmas Dress.
I have the hardest time finding overall buckles. So much so, that I ended up doing other projects & forgot all about it!
So happy to find notions for making doll clothes. Cannot find a store that carries small items such zippers.
“I have the hardest time finding small print fabric, accessories (flowers, tools etc) buckles and zippers”
I have the hardest time finding properly scaled zippers and buckles. Also lace trim and other fabric notions at are properly scaled.
I have the hardest time finding doll size prints in fabrics. Appreciate the giveaways!
Love making doll clothes, but embellishments can be tricky to get the right size.
“I shop for shoes and trims at Joann’s" OR Hobby Lobby.
“I have the hardest time finding zippers buttons and small print cloth at my local Joann’s. sewing supply. I usually cut my Velcro and zippers to size but just learned while reading the comments that there is a no-snag Velcro. I need to find that now as I hate when the doll clothes snag on carpet, sweaters….
I re use items mostly found at garage sales and flea markets. Baby clothes and such. There’s just something sentimental about making something new out of something old.
“I shop for doll supplies at JoAnn’s, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, Fabric.com, and Amazon.com. I love the unique patterns at Pixie Faire, but finding some of the notions can be challenging. I do a lot of Google searches. Taking the Mastery courses helped expand my list of sources immensely.
“I have the hardest time finding doll sized zippers in the colors I need”. The same for doll scaled trim for shoes, it is hard to find the colors I’m looking for.
I have the hardest time finding prints that are size and sometimes period appropriate for historically inspired garments. Little buttons are always difficult too!!!
It is difficult to find appropriate sized prints and notions. Pixie Faire by far the best source and occasionally Joann’s and Fabric and will have what I need. But since I have found Pixie Faire, I am hooked!! Such perfect notions and patterns! And in Seattle, too.
I shop for doll notions at JoAnn Etc. and Michaels, and for little zippers online. I also always check garage sales for doll-scale fabrics and notions. I scored a beautiful, tiny print, pale pink silk skirt for $1.00 last summer – at least 1/2 yard of fabric and very few seams to work around!
I shop for doll supplies at Joann’s and Hobby Lobby, but finding doll-size zippers, buckles and snaps is difficult, so I rely on Pixie Faire to point me in the right direction for these items! Thanks for all the wonderful 12 Days of Christmas giveaways, as well as Freebie Friday and Mod Doll Monday. Happy 2018 to all!
I shop for fabric for doll clothes in my stash of leftover fabric from quilts. If that doesn’t work, my go to place is JoAnn Fabrics.
I deconstruct old clothes (mine and Goodwill) that have tiny prints for doll clothes, and shopped in my quilting stash for small scale patterns. I like recycling. I’d like to find more small embroidery patterns (hand and machine).
Living over a hundred miles from a city of any size, I have difficulty finding supplies. The nearest Wal Marts barely have a fabric department, not to mention doll supplies. I have the hardest time finding 1/2" D rings for belts. My husband found some for me in a junk box at an auction, but they didn’t last long. I’ve shopped at Home Sew and Zipper that doll, but finally found the rings online at CR crafts. Thanks for the opportunity to win some supplies without the hunt!
I have not attempted the patterns I have that require zippers because I didn’t know where to find them and didn’t have time to look into it. Now I know where to go?
I miss Hancock and the closest JoAnn which closed. I now shop for doll notions and supplies at Hobby Lobby (sewing, jewelry, paper-craft, and miniature departments) and for children’s clothing at yard sales and Goodwill (buttons, buckles from shoes, and even embroidered or lace panels or collars that are small enough to as is or easy to cut down). I like the idea of upcycling useable parts of garments that are otherwise too stained or worn. I have difficulty finding soft Velcro and consistent time for sewing. Thanks to the Pixie Faire staff and designers who have worked on the 12 Days of Christmas and other promotions all year!!
I am new to doll clothes and hope to find zippers and have learned a bit just reading these comments. Thank you for your generous weekly patterns. I hope to win to get me started.
I shop for Velcro from farm cookies on Etsy. They have colored Velcro plus it is thin which is nice for keeping scale. I also buy remnants from Joann, they are 50% off and I find all kinds. Although I do find a hard time finding such cute fabric that I see everyone using.
“I have the hardest time finding everything except the thin velcro and small buttons which I find at Michaels in Canada but the small zippers, and other small findings are hard to find. When I look on pixie faire to get something I always seem to find that it is all sold out. A good indication that lots of people are looking for these small findings to make their doll clothes complete and special. I am really hoping that I am able to win these items as they will make the doll clothes I am making for my two granddaughters very happy with this Grandma.
I try to reuse materials from things I already own… I try to make the pattern fit what I have. I up cycle clothes and even around the house stuff. Just yesterday my daughter and I made a warm coat for her bear that was from a leftover batting that wraps around a dishwasher.
I have the hardest time finding doll zippers and doll size velcro
I shop for fabric at Hobby Lobby, Joann’s, quilt shops, the downtown Los Angeles fabric mart and sometimes in thrift stores. I have the hardest time finding fancy trim that I can use for belts, etc. but usually find what I need either on Etsy, Amazon or in the dollar store.
Everywhere I go, I look for doll size items. Many times I find little charms etc at Hobby Lobby or Joann in the jewelry department. I also search at Home Sew too but still find them limited. I try to use coupons whenever possible and always look for sales. One thing I miss very much that Pixie Faire use to sell are the fabric packs for outfits especially the Historical Outfits. They are in the process of getting rid of all on line doll supplies.
I shop for all kinds of craft supplies at estate sales. I get fabric, yarn, thread, buttons, ribbon, snaps, hooks, elastic and many things that I don’t even know what they were for, and sometimes still unopened in the packaging with vintage pricing on them.
I had the hardest time seeing what I was sewing on these short dreary winter days. This was remedied by adding a Ikea Jansjo desk/work LED lamp light. It made sewing after dark a breeze.
I’ve been “dolly” sewing for less than a year. So far, I have been making clothes that do not require much in the way of small notions… As the New Year comes and I have fresh ideas and I design new items, I will need to shop on line for the mini’s I will need. Happy New Year and Good Luck to everyone. Thanks so much for this awesome contest!
Besides my inventory( too big to call it a stash), I find that pet collars(Cats) at the Dollar Store are a good size for buckles on doll items. Goodwill can have small items in infant clothing & in jewelry section. I have ordered tiny buckles on line, but I try to keep my purchases local when I can. Hancock is closed, so JoAnn,Hobby Lobby,Walmart are local fabrics. FabricHut.com & ebay vendor “laceandtrims” has tons on small sizes. Thank you again for another great 12 Days of Christmas. PS… where are the winners listed ?
I love to “shop” in the back storage room of our church!! We have an active sewing group and people donate all kinds of things. Left over quilt cotton in color coordinated pieces—just the thing for doll dresses. Jewelry finds are also there. Did you say buttons? We have jars of them—some already sorted by color—and they work fine. Much of my sewing goes into the church bazaar. My biggest expense is thin velcro. I order it online.
I shop for my doll trims at joann’s. I have the hardest time finding tiny trims.
I’ve spent too much time this morning reading dozens of comments but I’ve learned that: I’m not the only doll clothes maker living far from city shopping areas; most of us use the same doll sized notions sources( and now I have a list of others to try; and most of us are problem solvers! I sew and sell doll clothes that are durable and intended for lots of imaginative play! Finding affordable notions is a challenge because I try to keep my prices affordable for young families and because I donate several dolls complete with wardrobes each year to girls, like myself as a child, who long for dolls like their peers’ but know their parents can’t afford.
I have the hardest time finding 1/2” sew on Velcro.
I have just gotten back into making doll clothes. I usually shop at Walmart and Joanns for most of my supplies. However, they do not have the uniquely sized notions for doll clothing. I have been reading the comments of where others purchase their notions and will use their ideas in the future.
I shop for most of my fabric, snaps, buttons, and trim at hobby lobby. They have everything I need usually.
“I shop for doll and sewing supplies at Wawak and Home Sew" I also always check auctions and rummage sale of someone who doesn’t want Grandma’s sewing stash.
No need to find narrow velcro for doll clothes. I cut 5/8" or 3/4" velcro in half lengthwise for closures on doll outfits. Believe it or not Walmart has a fairly decent stock of fabric and notions.
I have a hard time finding trims to scale for small doll clothes
I shop for scraps or cloths big enough for my patterns….I hav a hard time findin zippers small enough fo some patterns but I improvise with Velcro instead.
I have the hardest time finding appropriate sized prints and notions. Pixie Faire by far the best source. You have to really shop and use your imagination to find things locally.
I shop for most of my fabric and supplies at Joann.com or Amazon.com, as I don’t get out of the house very much. I also use a lot of my old clothes to make doll clothes and shirts/sweaters for my little dogs.
I am on constant lookout for doll szie things at all the craft stores and thrift stores and any store. Sometimes there are cute buckles and similar things in the jewelry sections. I also can spend lots of time looking at all the stuff on ebay!
I shop for tiny buttons in small sacks at JoAnn’s, Michaels and Walmart. I shop for vintage delicate laces and trims in doll and baby scale at craft and antique shows and flea markets. They are the perfect size. I have a hard time finding small scale zippers and non-abrasive hook and loop tape. I end up buying regular hook and loop tape and cutting it down the middle. However, it can destroy specialty fabrics; so I don’t use it much. For zippers, I really hate using human scale zippers for dolls because the teeth of the zippers are way out of proportion. It bugs me, so I avoid it.
I have the hardest time finding doll size zippers. Whenever I find a lightweight zipper I buy it and shorten it. If I need a buckle or tiny buttons, I use shrink plastic, then a nail polish coat
after shrinking.
I shop for small buttons and snaps online or at Hobby Lobby because it is within walking distance from my house.
I have a hard time finding colorful notions that aren’t just pink .
I have the hardest time finding buckles and separating zippers. Buttons aren’t easy either.
I have a difficult time finding small enough buttons and other accessories for doll outfits. I have had some good luck finding 5" separating zippers at Zipit zippers (Etsy) online.
i shop at Home Sew for separating zippers. I have the hardest time finding small print knits and fleece and an even harder time finding ribbing to match for cuffs and neckline. I usually limit my purchases to the colors of ribbing I can find.
I have a hard time finding Velcro that is less than 1/2" wide.
I have been really fortunate, I seem to find my notions at garage or estate sales, and have been blessed with many ladies at my church handing over their treasures for me to “shop” through. I have a love for anything vintage, so that adds a special touchto my doll clothes. Ihave a hard time finding doll size, so I usually modify things to simplify and fit my patterns.
I shop for zippers at Zipper That Doll but I shop for buttons, trims, etc. at thrift shops and yard sales. I am not very close to a fabric or craft shop that has what I would like. I can sometimes find little embellishments on ready made garments.
I shop for small buttons at FabricLand and other notions online.
I ship for fabrics at Hobby Lobby and Joann’s. I also use some of my daughters clothes that she’s outgrown or have holes in them!
I shop for doll sized supplies everywhere I go especially yard sales and thrift stores. When I’m working on a project and have specific needs I use pixie faire, Amazon, joanns, pat catans, or Etsy.
I find a lot of my notions from my own closet. When I go through to cull out pieces I haven’t worn in a couple of years, I find all kinds of interesting parts and pieces. If the piece can’t be donated because of stains, rips, or excessive wear, I harvest all the interesting parts and use them in doll clothes.
I have the hardest time finding any notions small enough for doll clothes. Our fabric store in town doesn’t sell anything small enough so I end up having to use regular Velcro which it really thick. It is hard to find tiny buttons and I don’t even attempt patterns with zippers. I would order supplies from Pixie Faire, but being in Canada, the cost of shipping and the exchange on the money makes that way too expensive.
I shop the fabric district in Toronto when I can but all there is here is Fabricland. I live in a remote area and am disabled. I make doll clothes for craft shows and love to provide things that are unique.
I have the hardest time finding frog closures for the 14" dolls.
I have the hardest time finding doll sized zippers & buttons. Along with small enough size print fabrics to look proportionate to the dolls.
I have the hardest time finding separating zippers in colors for doll parkas.
I have the hardest time finding separating zippers especially in white. I have tried Pixie Faire but they are often sod out.My best source for tiny buttons has been estate sales.
I am just started sewing doll clothes for my granddaughters—and me! I loved sewing for my dolls when I was a girl with scraps and guidance from my Mom and Grandmother who were expert sewers. Fabrics and trims have changed and I have to learn new techniques which brought me to Pixie Faire. But the fun of the hunt to find the materials and best methods to create what we imagine never ends!
I usually cut down regular size stuff to make my cloths, I can not find notions small enough to do it.
I shop for doll size notions at Joann’s and Ebay
Since I am disabled, I find everything I use online. For notions, the craft suppliers and miniaturists on Etsy almost always have what you need such as tiny buttons and buckles because they supply to doll makers.I buy my fabric from fabric.com There is always a scale so you know how big the print is going to be.
One of my granddaughters is finally old enough for her first AG doll, a Wellie Wisher. Haven’t sewn do!l clothes since my girls got their AG dolls decades ago. I’m so excited I asked my husband for a Wellie for Christmas so I could fit them. Finding notions isn’t a problem yet but soon will be when my stash is depleated. Thanks for all the good ideas
I shop for Snag Free Velcro at Home Sew. It is 1 inch and I cut it in half.
I have ordered thin velcro at Zipper that Doll. I keep an eye out at where ever I’m shopping and pick up random tiny notions “just in case”. I also save all the tiny buttons from baby clothes that have gotten worn out!
I shop for doll buttons and fabrics from the 40s and 50s for dolls at thrift stores. My thrift store sells fabric, and sometimes to get the fabric type and color I need to find a donated “antique” garment in great shape. And often the buttons on a thrift sale garment are cheaper than buying buttons in a fabric store.
I have trouble finding clasps for cloaks — and when I do, they are often very costly.
I look online but mostly in my scraps and grandmother’s button box most of the time. I will google what I am looking for.
I love to shop at Joannes and Hobby Lobby. You can find fabric and embellishments that are the right size for the doll. One of my favorite sections is the reduced price remnant section-a great place to find a treasure! Sometimes it is hard to find all you would need but it is a great place to start!
I have the hardest time finding denim that is not to bulky for the tiny doll jackets.
Thank you PixieFaire for such a great giveaway!!
I shop for doll clothes and other doll supplies at second hand stores. I have even recycled leather purses and made them into doll shoes that turned out real cute! I know Pixie Faire has LOTS of supplies, but I am on a tight budget, and I enjoy the thrill of finding hidden treasures at second hand stores.
I browse the mainstream stores (i.e. Hobby Lobby, Jo Ann’s, and Michael’s) for whatever I can find. I make sure to search the paper crafting aisles for the smallest buttons, bows and ribbons. I usually by my cotton prints and the quilt shop in town. They stock everything in color coordinated displays. This makes mixing and matching simpler. Zippers are near to impossible to find locally. I plan on getting my supply through Pixie Faire (thank you). My most difficult items to find are knits with small ribs or small prints, thin wail corduroy, and vinyl. I would recommend using stamps from the paper crafting aisle to stamp embroidery designs on fabric. You can control the color and pressure of the ink and the designs are usually very small.
Zippers are imposible to find in town. Also, I can never find the thin velcro.
I shop for fabric and trim at Joann’s. Other than thin velcro, I haven’t used many small notions but I’d love the opportunity to try!
I am not a hobbyist, but I hope to win so I can gift this!!
“I shop for doll supplies—-I’m a newbie so I shop at Amazon online and do internet searches. Hopefully the comments above and below will get me pointed in the right direction.
“I have the hardest time finding tiny zippers for doll clothes.”

I have the hardest time finding doll-sized print on fabric.
