My assumption is that most of us sew! We’d love to hear more about your sewing experience. Are you just learning to sew, or have you been at it for a while? Do you use a basic standard machine or one with all the bells and whistles? What about a serger, are you using one of those? (or wondering what in the world I’m talking about!)

I have my gramma’s straight stitch only machine I learned on in the 60’s, and a new last year embroidery/sewing machine, I still have a garage sale Kenmore machine (which was still new in the box but had been shipped around the world with a navy wife) I picked up when my kids were babies and an economy serger I bought at the fair one summer early 90’s. I recently acquired my mom’s machine. For me, my machines are like old friends complete with many wonderful memories, I will one day pass them on to the young ones and they will continue to bless their friends and family with their own lovingly created items. I love the new machines with speed control because my granddaughter is now learning to sew and shows talent for designing little stuffies.
I’m currently using an old Kenmore sewing machine. I like that it was free and it isn’t too complicated. I learned on a Janome Hello Kitty sewing machine that I still have. Love that it’s not intimidating for those new to sewing. My mother-in-law has a Bernini and she was impressed with how easy the Hello Kitty sewing machine is to use.
I use my old Bernina from the 1970’s… The thing I like most about it is it’s outstanding stitch quality – I rarely need to mess with the tension, and I’ve sewed everything from formal draperies to lingerie and swimwear over the years. I only use my newer machine when I need a walking foot or a specific stitch, such as the one that looks like a buttonhole stitch.
I have a Pfaff Creative 2140 and an old Viking Husqvarna that was one of their very first computerized machines. The Viking is a great workhorse and is excellent at velcro. My favorite features of the Pfaff are the integrated walking foot, it feeds fabric extremely well, does “semi-automatic” buttonholes as an option, and can do free-motion quilting. I’d like to find a great mechanical (non-computerized) machine that I can keep running forever that will do general sewing well. I also have a Pfaff serger and LOVE having one! I especially like it when doing people clothes and household sewing. I switch between serging and zig-zag for doll clothes, but really like the look and stability of the serged edge the most.
I use a brother sewing machine. I love that it is easy to thread and has lots of decorative stitches.
