Working by yourself on a new technique can be really hard, but a good description of how to work it or a great photo can make the idea click and the pattern becomes easy to do.

The most important and/or useful feature or element in a pattern is a set of precise, clearly written instructions which include not only clear, grammatical sentences but sharp illustrations or pictures which show each step. Even the best drawn of patterns does not yield good results when the instructions are difficult to follow or when the illustrations do not match construction steps.

The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is clear instructions, both written and visual. Sometimes when the pattern is printed out I rely solely on the pattern. I don’t want to rely on videos to show me how to do something. That is why I pay for a pattern, for the designer to care enough to write down clear and concise instructions in an orderly manner. The pattern pieces should be clearly marked as well so all confusion is avoided. That is the mark of a good designer.

A bonus is optional finished views, suggested fabrics, and where to purchase fabrics and notions. A pattern might be great, but choosing the right fabric makes a difference, so your help is appreciated. Thank you.

Aside from pattern pieces that fit, the most important part of the pattern is having all measurements for rectangular pieces and elastic either together in one location with the pattern pieces or better, directly on the pattern piece itself.

I hate to see important instructions left on the written part of the pattern instructions but left off the pattern itself. I know I need to read the instructions completely, however its so annoying I have to make marks on the pattern based on instructions that are not part of the pattern itself.

The most important/useful feature or element of a PDF pattern is the 1" guide on each pattern page because, if the pattern pieces don’t print the correct size, then the finished item is not going to fit the doll. I love all aspects of Liberty Jane patterns – the clear instructions, the great pictures, the materials list, etc, but having that 1" marking on each pattern page is the most useful thing to me.
