I sew, do some basic knitting and crochet only as a hobby, mostly for my grandchildren. On average, I spend approximately four hours per week, more if I have the spare time.
I sew primarily for my doll clothes business and as an outlet for my creative side. I love putting all of the elements together and coming up with unique outfits for my customers. I spend every hour I can sewing but that varies according to the season. As we farm, there is always so much to do all year round so I take advantage of any free time I get.some weeks it’s all day, every day. Others I might only get a couple of hours here and there.
I sew as a hobby and for stress relief. The amount of time I can devote to sewing and knitting varies but my only New Year’s resolution is to do more of both!
I sew for church (banners and altar cloths), my former middle school theatre (costumes), and used to sew for our high school theatre and choir. During theatre season, I can sew up to 14 hours a day for 6 to 7 hours a day for 2 1/2 months. Last year, I made 69 “Little Mermaid” costumes for my middle school. I also redress used dolls in historical, modern, and fantasy costumes. I am a 44 year 4-H leader, teaching sewing, crocheting, knitting, jewelry making, basketry, flower making: things that I had to learn as I costumed our award winning high school theatre productions. I have 4 sewing machines, a serger, and an embroidery machine, all of which I use for doll clothes making, as well as costuming students.
I crochet as a hobby as I love to gift my creations to others. I crochet on average a few hours a week. I would love to do it more!
