Many of you have large collections of dolls, or sew for someone who does! We'd love to know more about the time period or era your dolls live in. Are they historical, if so from which era? Are they modern girls, is so which style do they prefer (boho, rocker, sporty, etc)? We'd love to know! To enter today's giveaway - simply respond to this post and complete this sentence:

I have made over 300 pieces of doll clothing and accessories for my granddaughters and as donations. Having made & adapted patterns for eras going back several hundred years, the most meaningful to them have been the ones I make similar to what their Mommys wear for work. I would love to see the FUTURE era of our granddaughters’ so they can widen their dreams. What will female pilots be wearing in 15-20 years, what will they wear when we proudly watch as our precious ones become President, etc? I can’t wait to see and hear their imaginative play with some of those. They have learned much of history with costumed doll role play. It’s good to use their dolls to also include encouraging their dreams for the future. ***I love this site and everyone’s comments!

My favorite era of doll clothing would have to be from the 50’s and 60’s, probably because I was a young child during those decades. The styles remind me of clothing I would have worn to my elementary school. Of course all of the patterns on this site are wonderful.

I like the modern era. Love clothes that are current fashion. I often wish there were patterns for a new piece of clothing being worn by my granddaughters. I sometimes wish I were bold enough to take a picture of a stranger wearing something that I really love. I know I won’t remember all the details or be able to figure out its construction. My favorite era of clothing and fashion is modern day. I was never in style but I love my dolls to be. I’m a product of the 50"s with an older sister so everything I had was passed down from her. Sometimes a ruffle was added to the bottom because I was taller. The 50’s clothing does bring back memories though……
I love the 18 inch dolls. When I was a girl I didn’t have many dolls so when I saw this type of doll I was awe stricken. I told myself that I was collecting patterns for my granddaughters so when they got American girl doll types I would be ready willing and able to make clothes for them. But I started making them for me instead. I have 4 dolls 3 used (by my granddaughters) and one new one I bought for myself.

My favorite period of clothing depends on the doll I am sewing for at that time. I love the 1940s and 1950s for the American Girl dolls, I love the Edwardian period for Tonner 15" dolls, Victorian period for doll house dolls, contemporary clothing for the Dianna Effner dolls and so on. I love to make elaborate heirloom pieces for baby dolls such as Bitty Baby and reborn dolls.But no matter which I am doing I like to put in the time to make anything I do museum quality by using the best fabrics and trims I can find, vintage pieces as much as possible and use sewing techniques such as French seams even on my doll house doll clothes. I just love sewing for all dolls as I’m sure most posters on here do!

I always make a doll dress to look like the birthday dresses I make for my granddaughters. Once they reach their fifth birthdays, they get to pick their own style and colors. All four have tended toward full skirts and lots of lace ruffles. I’d like to see patterns with more lace trimming and insertions.

I’m a nurse that had to wear dress uniforms at the beginning of my career and was so glad when pants uniforms became popular. I would like to see some nice uniform tops (not scrub tops) to pair with white uniform pants for my doll.
