Our favorite holiday tradition is having all our family over on Christmas Eve. It’s the only time of the year that we get everyone together. We feed them, fellowship, and treat them. The love we have for our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren is expressed not by what is received or given, but by the time we get to spend together fellowshipping at such a special time of the year.

My favorite holiday tradition is seeing what my husband will buy me. After 31 years, he still manages to surprise me with his insight into my soul. I always ask for certain things (like gift cards to JoAnn Fabrics), but I can always count on him to have noticed something during the year that he thinks I might need or want, but I haven’t ask for. He’s just the best.

My favorite holiday tradition is watching a Christmas movie while we decorate our tree each year. Our ornaments are almost entirely from the trips we’ve taken or events we’ve attended, so it’s like looking through a memory album!

My favorite holiday tradition is a homemade ornament exchange with my sisters. Each sister makes an ornament in secret and brings it in a bag to our holiday gathering. Each bag is numbered. Each sister draws a number and checks to be sure she didn’t draw her own. The fun is the unwrapping and revealing.

My favourite holiday tradition is sitting in my living room, Christmas Eve, with all the lights off except for the tree and ornaments, with the Christmas music on and looking out my living room window and wandering at the miracle of this time of year. The streets are bare of traffic and the sky is usually twinkling with stars and all seems peaceful and wonderful. It is like escaping to a place where all the hubbub is not allowed.

For me it’s the time late at night when the only lights on are the tree lights. Just sitting in the dark watching the sparkles, usually with no noise, occasionally carols playing quietly in the background. Just me, the lights, the quiet, and the peaceful feeling I have knowing that all is right in my world.

My favorite tradition is making homemade oraments from flour. As a child one Christmas my parents could aford little. We lived in the country in a one room home with no running water and a wood stove. My father found a small cedar tree and we made oraments from flour and garland from popcorn. My mother saved stamps I got a little jewlery box with a ballerina doll that turned when you turned the key. My brother got a hand made truck from my Dad. As time for our family got better we still make the homemade oraments and through both parents are gone now every Christmas my sisters and I get together and make some oraments from flour. Now my nieces join in the fun.

My favorite holiday tradition is decorating the Christmas tree. As a child my mother would buy or make us a new ornament each year. I now do the same for my daughter. My sister also makes a handmade ornament each year for all the nieces and nephews. When we decorate our tree and hang my childhood ornaments (my mom saved them all) along with my young daughters collection we share and make memories, new and old. You can’t help feel the love and warmth those memories bring, especially since my mother passed just over a year ago.

My favorite family tradition is attending Christmas Eve services together. Now that the kids are grown and have families of their own – the hardest part of Christmas day is waiting till mid-afternoon for all to gather together, open gifts and enjoy a dinner with the family around the dining room table my parents purchased in 1958. The generations together in spirit as well as in the flesh.

My favorite holiday tradition started when I was a child. Too excited to wait a whole night to open all of those beautiful presents under the tree, my mother allowed me to open one on Christmas eve. She very wisely chose a package that held a beautiful Christmassy nightgown. Since then the tradition of “Christmas pjs” has carried through to this day although my husband took over the tradition once we were married. That’s almost 50 years of Christmas pj’s all told!
