My favorite tradition is waking up to see presents

My favorite tradition is baking with my granddaughter. As I only have one grandchild, I try to pass on traditions that have been going on for years. We are only a family of five with one daughter living in CO. I try to send her a ticket to come down to AZ every other year. Sometimes it is just not possible though..
My favorite holiday tradition is bringing out the boxes (yes, boxes)of handmade ornaments that my favorite aunt made every year for my son who is now grown. Each year from birth, she made him at least 6 new ornaments all out of felt and sequins – all sewn by hand. She used whatever toy what popular that year as inspiration. So, we have Batman, Superman and the list goes on and on. So much love went into these that they will be forever treasured at the blessed time of the year.

On Christmas, birthday’s and summer vacation each of our 10 young grandchildren receive a shirt that I have made for them. They may all look alike or be totally different. I enjoy doing this for each one of them and cater them to their own likes. We get to see one of our sons and his family twice a year so we make the most of that time spent together. The thrills, shrills and laughter make it all worth the effort. So not just on Christmas but we have this ongoing all year round.

Over the years, traditions have come and gone, changed, and then returned. No matter what changes in my family’s lives, the one tradition that remains constant is making fudge.
