Every year Santa makes a special visit to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Santa leaves personalized (by Grandma) letters to each of the three children. She will play the role of St. Lucia for the season, while the others stand behind and around her like an angel choir.
My favorite holiday tradition has changed through the years it used to be our family going to cut down the Christmas tree and decorating it. Then the children grew up and have families of their own so my husband and I develop a new one of each year decorating our tree with a different theme—one year ornaments from our travels, another year only handmade ornaments etc. Since my husband died a few years ago my new favorite tradition is the children and grandchildren that can come to my house and we spend one day baking cookies and having dinner.

My favorite holiday tradition is having family for Christmas dinner with all the trimmings plus THE CHRISTMAS TREE! with the special ornaments handed down from generations along with those made by my Mother—one for each grandchild each Christmas. Many memories surface while hanging these special ornaments. Christmas dinner also has special recipes from my Grandmother that the family enjoys.
It is hard to pick one as when we put the tree up there a decorations dating back to the 1940’s- Glass ones and since we married my mother in law gave our children decorations( which they did not take to there Homes) and each year we now give our children trees a decoration. so there are mementos of loved ones no longer which us, and new members of the Family as they have arrived. So as I decorate the tree I am thinking of our family’s near and far. Then there is the giving of tree gifts. small gifts that are opened in the evening of Christmas Day or on boxing day. trouble is each family tree send gifts to the other trees so some times it is hiding them in the tree away from little fingers. You never know what will be in them. One year I got drawings from my new grand daughter. it is the gift of giving and remembering those near and far,and departed as the Christmas tree lights, light up the memories within our Tree..
