I sew as a hobby. I usually spend around 3-5 hours a week in my sewing room. Now I am mostly sewing doll clothes for my granddaughter and friends. I just finished two 1800’s outfits for a friend’s granddaughter’s Felicity doll that she got for Christmas. They were really fun to make. I would like this year to learn to quilt.

What fun! My little friend loves historical outfits for her doll. I’m hoping to make some for her. I sew quilts and Am Dolls clothing just for her. The doll patterns get done a lot faster than quilts and give me a real sense of accomplishment. A finished project! Yea!

I sew primarily as a hobby; on average, I spend several hours a few times a month depending on what my current projects are. I attend a group charity sew for 4 hours once a month making pajamas for foster kids, walker bags for seniors and other projects (which sometimes spills over into home sewing). I also enjoy two wonderful weekend sewing retreats every year where I accomplish my major projects. I always have a knitting or crochet project going since I cannot watch TV without something in my hands.

My reasons for sewing have changed through the years as have the time spent. As a child I made doll clothes as my Mother and Grandmother sewed. As a teen I made clothes for myself including prom dresses. I became a Home Economics teacher because I wanted to share my love of sewing. I have sewn for my own children and now for my grandchildren. I relax, as well as feel creative and productive. While the time spent fluctuates with the seasons and the reason for the project.

I always like needle craft. I am a belgian lacemaker (since 1982) and I made all doll’s clothes for our daughter Marie who is 34 years old now. I gave her a little Sasha doll when her little brother (François) is born. She was always looked at me when she was child and now I am proud of her because she likes sewing (she makes her own shirt), she likes knitting and makes very beautiful embroideries of her own imagination. So, sew, is family pleasure. Moreover, I like “playing” doll and my dream is to win a American doll. So… I hope to be lucky this time ! Thank you in advance.

I sew because it is my passion and gives me great joy. I love learning new things and I love to share the joy of sewing by teaching. In this season of my life I am serving as the costume mistress for my daughter’s ballet company. Before a show, I can be sewing all day, every day. I have learned a lot sewing for VA Ballet Co and school. In the upcoming off season, I am going to teach some adults to sew and some of the youth at the ballet studio.
When my children were little, I made a lot of their clothes. I love to do heirloom sewing and smocking and would often make doll clothes that coordinated with their clothes. I smock for fun and relaxation.
